Settlers Pond

The Lighter Side
of One of The Edison Employees

Roland Janota, an employee of Exelon for 38 years, shows us the true meaning of dedication and volunteering. Roland and his wife Pinky own an animal shelter in Beecher, IL, called Settler's Pond.

Settler's Pond is a not for profit 501c3 charity. They are a safe haven for hooved and exotic animals. Some of the numerous animals that call Settlers Pond Shelter home are kangaroos. Zebras. Camels, kinkajous, sloths, and your normal barn yard critters. Settlers Pond is a no kill shelter and is taking in animals at an alarming rate.

Not only does Roland donate thousands of hours a year, but also 50% of his take home pay.  They also provide a safe environment for special needs children to come out and learn about animals. It's very therapeutic for both parties.

Settlers Pond has numerous forms of fund raising. One  is their annual pumpkin patch. Due to horrible weather, they haven't taken in nearly enough donations to get them through the year. Roland Janota, and wife Pinky, play Santa and Mrs. Claus for the children at their Third Annual Indoor Christmas Tree and Wreath shopping, starting November 27th, 2009. They will be open 7 days a week from 10 am- 7pm until December 23rd.
